Self Employment- The Challenges That You Stand To Face

Self employment refers to running a business on your own instead of working for another person, employer or company. Self employed people pay themselves from the earnings they get through the transactions they make. For self employment to be successful, it calls for skills in a particular line of trade or operations. One needs to be very familiar with the products or services they hope to deal with.

Self employment is nowadays becoming a last resort for many young people who are through with school but cannot find any stable or secure form of employment. With the advancement in technology, it has even become very easy for many people to become self employed, knowing too well that the money they make is solely theirs.

Many people cannot tell the difference between being self employed and being a business owner. To be self employed means that all the skills required to have the job running must come from you. You need to have your hands on the job. Being a business owner on the other hand could simply mean that the business belongs to you and you are the sole decision maker, but the day to day running of the affairs of the business are entrusted to another person. In other words, a business owner does not entirely have his hands on the job.

Self employed persons are subject to taxation in the United States. The rate at which they are charged is currently set at 15.3%, but this is usually subject to change once in a while. A person in self employment also pays tax which is higher than that of a regular employed person, and they are not entitled to the 401k type of retirement-saving plan.
